Celebrate Juneteenth: Freedom, Resilience, and Community

Juneteenth is more than a historical commemoration—it is an opportunity to reflect on the enduring pursuit of freedom, justice, and human dignity in America.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free. Their story reminds us that progress is often hard-won, delayed, and incomplete. It also reminds us that hope persists even in the face of adversity.

As we gather this year, many Americans continue to wrestle with questions of civic engagement, representation, access, belonging, and opportunity. Juneteenth invites us to acknowledge both the progress that has been made and the work that remains. It calls us to celebrate resilience, honor those who came before us, and recommit ourselves to building stronger communities for future generations.

Join us on Friday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Frazier Hall for a Juneteenth Celebratory Brunch featuring special guest Dr. Ricky Jones, from the Department of Pan-African Studies at the University of Louisville and rising fellow at Simmons College

This free event is open to all members of the Bellarmine and greater Louisville communities. Participants will enjoy a complimentary brunch, engaging conversation, opportunities for reflection and learning, and Juneteenth-themed trivia with chances to win prizes.

Whether you come to deepen your understanding of Juneteenth, connect with others, or simply celebrate the spirit of community, we invite you to join us for a meaningful and uplifting morning.

Together, we will honor the past, engage the present, and envision a future where freedom, dignity, and opportunity are realized for all.

Admission is free. All are welcome. Please feel free to share!

Hosted by President’s Office, BFSA, and Carver Center.
